Actiontec DSL Modem Support Guide

Overview

Many times a restart of the Actiontec DSL modem and your computer(s) will take care of any connectivity issues.

NEVER press the modem 'RESET' button located on the back of the device.

The Actiontec DSL modem uses color coded cables for your convenience.

To restart your Actiontec DSL modem simply un-plug the power cord on the back of the modem, wait 2 seconds, and then plug it back in.

An Actiotnec DSL modem usually takes 30 seconds to reboot and obtain a DSL signal.

DSL service is associated with a particular phone number. The Actiontec DSL modem must be connected to the proper telephone jack.


Connecting the cables

Connect the black power cord.

The green telephone cable should be connected from the telephone wall jack (line provisioned for DSL) to your Actiotnec DSL modem's 'LINE' port. Filters, splitters and any electronic equipment can block the DSL signal. The green telephone cord should be connected directly from the wall jack to the 'Line' port on Actiontec DSL modem. The 'PHONE' port on the Actiontec DSL modem can then be connected to a phone or fax machine.

The yellow Ethernet cable should be connected from the port labeled 'Ethernet" on your Actiontec DSL modem directly to your computer's Ethernet port. A computers Ethernet port is twice the size of a regular phone port. Once connected properly to your computer the Ethernet light on your Actiontec DSL modem will be steady green.

Modem light indicators

Power light

The Power Light flashes rapidly while the Actionec DSL modem restarts, then it will glows steady green. This may take 5 seconds.

If the Power Light is RED and does not change after 5 seconds you should reboot your Actiontec DSL modem. To restart your Actiontec DSL modem simply un-plug the power cord on the back of the modem, wait 2 seconds, and then plug it back in.

If you have no lights on your Actiontec DSL modem please check the power cord and power connections.

DSL light

DSL light should be solid green, this indicates your Actiontec DSL modem is detecting the DSL signal. If the DSL light continues to flash for longer than 30 seconds check the following;

Do you have a telephone cable from your telephone wall jack directly to the port labeled 'Line' on your Actiontec DSL modem?

The cable from the wall jack to the modem should NOT be connected to a phone filter. A filter blocks the DSL signal, thus do NOT place a filter on phone line to the Actiontec DSL modem.

Clients with multiple phone line should isolate the correct line because the Actiontec DSL modem must be plugged into the correct phone line / jack that has DSL provisioned.

Phone filters should be utilized on all telephone jacks serviced with DSL. This may include; fax machines, satellite equipment, phone answering machines, caller-id box, alarm system, phone system, credit card processing devices. Do not filter the line feeding the Actiontec DSL modem.

If the Actiontec DSL modem light is not a steady green and does not change after 30 seconds you should reboot your Actiontec DSL modem. To reboot your Actiontec DSL modem simply un-plug the power cord on the back of the modem, wait 2 seconds, and then plug it back in.


Internet light

The Internet light should be solid green, this indicates your Actiontec DSL modem is detecting the DSL signal and is on-line. However, if the Internet light is not active or it's RED for more than 30 seconds check the following;

If the Actiontec DSL modem's Internet light is not a steady green and does not change after 45seconds you should restart your Actiontec DSL modem. To reboot your Actiontec DSL modem simply un-plug the power cord on the back of the modem, wait 2 seconds, and then plug it back in.
