VailNet MailFilter
Spam Tagging and Quarantining

VailNet has historically looked to the latest technologies to find tools to fight the growing Spam problem. VailNet now offers two services; "Spam Tagging" and our premium service "Spam Quarantine". These services can help to reduce or even eliminate the volume of unsolicited junk email (SPAM) that ends up in your mailbox. The two service levels are available to all subscribers whose mailboxes have addresses in the @vail.net, @colorado.net or @mountainmax.net domains.

Spam Tagging: This service attempts to identify spam and tag their subject lines with this phrase *****SPAM*****. This is a free service which is part of all email packages.

Spam Quarantining: This service adds an important feature not previously available. Along with blocking, quarantining, and removing spam, "Spam Quarantine" allows you to personalize the filtering process.

Spam Tagging

By default, all mail sent to any mailbox in the @vail.net, @mountainmax.net or @colorado.net domains is scanned by our anti-spam filter. This server uses a large number of ever growing heuristics to try and determine if an email is a "spam" or not.

For example: emails with enough phrases like "lose weight fast" or "click here to take advantage of this great free offer" might result in the anti-spam filter server thinking that the email is actually spam.

Any email which the anti-spam filter server believes might be spam is tagged as possible SPAM. This means that the word "*****SPAM*****" is inserted in front of the original subject line of the incoming email. The email is then still delivered to the mailbox on vail.net, colorado.net or mountainmax.net. This is because no anti-spam filtering program can ever be 100% accurate.

For example: maybe you really did request an email from somewhere that will help you "lose weight fast” or perhaps you ask for something which involves clicking for some "great free offer".

So if an email with a Subject of "lose weight fast” is interpreted by the anti-spam server and “tagged” as spam. The server will still deliver the email, but by the time it reaches your mailbox the Subject line will read "*****SPAM***** Weight Loss Pills".

Individual subscribers can configure their mail reading program (Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, etc) to move “tagged” emails to a spam folder (created by the user) or the “trash bin” on their computer.

This "tagging" (the insertion of “*****SPAM****” phrase in front on the original subject line) is a free service included with your email address @vail.net, @colorado.net or @mountainmax.net.

SPAM QUARANTINE

This service allows you to blocking, quarantining, and removing Spam that normally would be delivered to your mailbox. What makes "Spam Quarantine" special is your ability to personalize the filtering process. You can choose which messages and senders are good (not spam) and bad (spam). Through individual control, "Spam Quarantine" learns and improves its accuracy over time, ensuring that you receive only the messages you want. "Spam Quarantine" is available as a premium service for a small monthly fee.

"Spam Quarantine" will greatly reduce the amount of spam delivered to your mailbox, thus speeding up the process of checking mail because almost all spam will never make it to your mailbox. Potential or real Spam will instead be delivered to your quarantine mailbox. This premium service will send you a daily or weekly email listing all the messages that have been quarantined and providing you with a web link to view, deliver, whitelist, blacklist, or delete the quarantined emails.
