Setup Instructions for Windows 2000 (DHCP)

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) allows many of our high-speed clients to setup and add computers quickly and easily. Following the instructions below will configure your Windows2000 computer for DHCP. If you have any problems or questions please write support@vail.net or call 970-949-3318.

Your computer may prompt you for the Win2000 CD during the configuration. This is the disk that was used to install the Windows 2000 operating system.

1.) Do a right mouse click on the Network Neighborhood icon.

2.) The Network control panel will be displayed.

3.) Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon.

4.) This will bring up your Local Area Connection Status window.

5.) Click the Properties button.

6.) This will bring up the Local Area Connection Properties window.

7.) Highlight Internet Protocol(TCP/IP), and click Properties.

8.) This brings up the Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) Properties.

9.) In this screen, make sure that the "Obtain an IP address automatically" radio button is selected.

The "Obtain DNS server address automatically" should be dotted as well.

You do not need to change in the Advanced settings.

10.) That's it! Click "OK" on all the opened windows, and restart your computer. You now have your computer configured for DHCP.

*NOTE: Sometimes you may need to release or renew you IP address. You need to be in a DOS window to enter these commands.
To release your IP address: Enter the command "ipconfig /release."
To renew your IP address, enter the command "ipconfig /renew."
