Setup
Instructions for Windows 95 & 98 Dialup
This
section helps you configure your Windows95 & 98 computer for
the Internet. If you have any questions concerning configuration

Step
I -- System Preparation
1.)
Turn on your computer.
2.)
If your modem is external make sure it is on and connected to the
computer. If you have never used your modem before please make sure
it is setup and working properly.
3.)
Close all applications and programs.
Step
II -- Dial-Up Networking
1.) Click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
2.) Click on the Dial-Up Networking icon in My Computer.
3.) Right Click on the MountainMax icon and choose Properties from
the pop-up menu.
4.) Click on the Server Types… tab.
5.) Click on the TCP/IP Settings button.
6.)
Change the Primary DNS to 65.38.128.2 and the Secondary DNS to 65.38.128.3
7.) Click OK, and click OK again.
8.)
Close the Dial-up Networking window.
Step II -- Dial-Up Networking
1.) Open the Control Panel folder.
2.) Double-click on the Network Icon.
3.) Double-click on TCP/IP or TCP/IP -> Dial Up Adapter.
DSL clients should double-click on TCP/IP or TCP/IP -> Ethernet-- Adapter.
4.) Click on the OK button (Win 98) at the confirmation dialog
box.
5.) Select the DNS configuration tab:

Remove the entries in 'DNS Server Search Order,
then type 65.38.128.2 and 65.38.128.3 in the smaller box and click ADD.
7.)
Click OK on this screen and also on the Network tab screen.
8.)
You will then be prompted to restart your computer. Choose yes to
restart for the changes to take effect.
Step
II: Setting up TCP/IP
To
properly configure a dial-up connection, it is necessary to set
up the TCP/IP properties of your network.
1.)
Click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
2.)
Click on the Control Panel folder.
3.)
Double-click on the Network Icon.
4.) Double-click on TCP/IP or TCP/IP -> Dial Up Adapter.
5.) Click on the OK button at the confirmation dialog box.
6.) Click on the appropriate tabs and make the corresponding settings:
A) IP Address tab - set to "Obtain an IP address automatically"
B) WINS Configuration tab - set to "Disable WINS Resolution"
C) Gateway tab - type 65.38.128.2 under New gateway and click on the Add button.
D) DNS configuration tab:
Set
to "Enable DNS" In the Host box place your username, Domain
box is vail.net
DNS server search order is:
Type 65.38.128.3 in the small box then click Add and Type 65.38.128.3
then click Add.
Domain Suffix Search Order is vail.net
Type vail.net in the small box then click Add
7.)
Click OK on this screen and also on the Network tab screen.
8.)
You will then be prompted to restart your computer. Choose yes to
restart for the changes to take effect.
Step
IV -- Connecting to VailNet/ColoradoNet/MountainMax
1.)
Double-click on the VailNet or ColoradoNet icon to start an Internet
session.
2.)
The 'Connect To' should open. Make sure that your username and password
are entered correctly (lower case and without @vail.net or @colorado.net).
The phone number should read: 949-3203.
3.)
Click Connect.
4.)
Your modem should initialize and dial.
5.)
The system will verify your username and password, then you will
be connected to the Internet.
To
start your Internet Browser (Internet Explorer), double click on
the Icon on your desktop named Internet Explorer.
Step V - Email - Setting Up Outlook Express
Open
Outlook Express through Start -> Programs -> Internet Explorer
-> Outlook Express. Or there may be an icon for Outlook Express
right on your desktop.
1.)
Click on Tools and select Accounts.
2.)
Click the Add button in the upper right then select Mail.
3.)
Enter your real name for Your Name. Click Next.
4.)
Enter your email address (i.e. username@colorado.net / username@vail.net
/ username@mountainmax.net) for email address. Click Next.
5.)
For the screen titled Email Server Names, make sure that My incoming
mail server is a "POP3" server. Type colorado.net ,vail.net,
or mail.mountainmax.net (depending on your email address) for both
the incoming and outgoing mail servers. Click Next.
6.)
Select Log on Using: and type your username and password in lower
case in the spaces provided. Click Next.
7.)
Type VailNet or ColoradoNet in the box on the Friendly Name screen.
Click Next.
8.)
Select Connect Using my Phone line on the Choose Connection Type
Screen. Click Next.
9.)
Select Use an existing Dial-Up Networking Connection and highlight
ColoradoNet or Vail Net.
10.)
Click Finish.
You
are now set up to send and receive email through Outlook Express.
Microsoft
Internet Explorer is your "Web Browser" or window to the
Internet. Explorer, lets you look at different web sites.
To
open/goto a Web site or Internet Address:
Click inside the Address or Location box near the top of the window
and delete all text in the box. Enter the web site address (www.yahoo.com)
and push enter on your keyboard.
