Setup Instructions for Windows XP Dialup

This section helps you configure your Windows XP computer for the Internet. If you have any questions please email us at support@vail.net or call 970-949-3318.

1.) Click the Start button, then choose Control Panel. (Note: If you are running Windows in classic mode you will need to select Start Menu --> Settings --> Control Panel)

2.) Double-click the Network and Dial-up Connections icon.

3.) Double-click the Make New Connection icon.

4.) Click the Next button.

5.) Select Connect to the Internet. Click the Next button

6.) Select Set up my Connection Manually. Click Next.

7.) Select Connect using a dial-up modem. Click the Next button.

8.) In the ISP Name field, type a name to identify your connection (ie. VailNet). Click the Next button.

9.) In the Phone number field, type 949-3203. (Note: If you require 10-digit dialing in order to access a local number, make sure to include the 970 are code.)

10.) Click the Next button.

11.) In the User name field, type your username. Be sure to enter your username lower case (your username consists of everything before @vail.net/@colorado.net/@mountainmax.net). In the Password field type your password, all in lower case. In the Confirm password field type your password again. Uncheck the boxes next to Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer and Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection. Click the Next button.

12.) Check the box next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop if you wish to have a shortcut to the connection on your desktop. Click the Finish button.

13.) Close all windows. From the Start menu, choose Connect To. (Note: If you are running in classic mode, choose Start Menu --> Settings --> Network Connections.)

14.) Right click your dial-up connection, select Properties.

15.) Click on the Networking tab. Select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) in the This connection uses the following items list. Click the Properties button.

16.) Select, Use the following DNS server addresses and enter the following:
Preferred DNS Server: 65.38.128.2
Alternate DNS Server
: 65.38.128.3

17.) Click the OK button.

18.) Click the OK button. Close any open windows and you are done.
